The following rescue horses call Shiloh Acres home and are permanent residents, whether due to age or special needs. Their care is just as important as that of our rescues that move on through adoption, and your donations help us to provide a safe and loving environment for them for life!
Distinguished older gentleman and former racing TB, Oliver is in his mid-20s and was rescued off a kill lot several years ago. He is technically still rideable in his current good health, but he has decided that he would much rather be a pasture potato... and we figured he has certainly earned that honor!
Nicholas is best buds with Oliver, and is also a former racing TB who is in his mid-20s in age. He has enough arthritis to no longer be rideable, but he is still enjoying life and hanging out with Oliver. Nicholas is a kill lot rescue from several years ago.
Topaz makes up the last member of our "TB Retirement Herd". Topaz was a broodmare for over 17 years, and now that she is in her early 20s, she enjoys no longer having to be a mama and flirting with Oliver and Nicholas. Topaz was surrendered to us in 2018 after her owner passed away.
This amazing mule is 37 years young, and came to us in 2019 after retiring from the US Forest Service, along with his buddy and cousin, Rastus. We sadly lost Rastus in the past year due to complications from old age. Fortunately, Big Red is continuing to do well and has made new friends now that Rastus has left us.
Barron is a 27 year old Paso Fino gelding that was surrendered to us, along with his daughter, Pony Girl. He is a very hard keeper who hasn't been ridden in years. He currently enjoys being a companion to Big Red.
Pony Girl is the 24 year old daughter of Barron, and is a full Paso Fino as well. She was never broke to ride, and we feel that at her advanced age she should continue to stay a pasture potato!
Raven (gelding) and Crow (mare) are officially the cutest, tiniest Mustang couple! They arrived to the rescue several YEARS apart, but acted like long-lost friends from first meeting. As they are both in the mid-20s and of the same size/build/coloring, we are thinking they may have come from the same herd originally. Unfortunately, Raven's BLM brand was poorly done and illegible, so we cannot compare it to Crow's to find out!
Olive is one special, sassy little mini horse! She is only about 8 years old, but has a form of dwarfism that has caused and will continue to cause some health concerns as she ages. She will most likely not have a normal life-span due to this, but for now she is a happy and healthy girl whose condition is always monitored.
Pumpkin, like Olive, has the same form of dwarfism and is also fairly young in age. Because of the monitoring of her health required, we have kept her on as a permanent resident and ambassador here at the rescue (plus, her and Olive have become good friends)!
Atticus is a tiny and very sweet old man mini, who adores his girls Olive and Pumpkin. He was extremely neglected and ill when we first got him, and it took over a year to get him fully rehabbed. As he is an old gentleman with some special care needed, we have kept him here as a permanent resident to round out our trio of special minis.
