May 1st, 2012:
Adoption Specials!
We need to get horses placed into great homes this summer!
It has been a rough 2012 for SAHR so far, with the unexpected loss of some amazing horses (not to mention the accumulation of some tremendous vet bills) from a Botulism contamination in hay.  The Botulism Toxicity killed 2 of our favorite mascots/permanent residents (one who was the inspiration for our logo, above), and sickened 4 other horses, who fortunately were able to pull through (thanks to expensive Anti-serum).
The bills from rising feed costs and medical emergencies (along with other outside factors), has put us in a position of needing to reduce our herd size drastically over the coming months.  We are hoping to get as many of our adoptable horses placed into loving homes as possible, so that we may ensure our ability to continue rescuing horses in the future.

Check out our 'Available Horses' page (which we will be working to fully update over the next few weeks with more photos/videos/bios) to see our adoptable horses needing homes!

Shiloh Acres Horse Rescue (SAHR) is a small, family operated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Ault, Colorado, dedicated to helping slaughter-bound, abused, neglected and unwanted horses.

SAHR's main focus is saving slaughter-bound and neglected horses by either outbidding the "kill buyers" at auction for them, or getting them directly from the kill buyers' feedlots before they are shipped off to slaughter plants located in Mexico and Canada.

As we can only house and care for so many horses at any given time, we also try to place horses into homes directly from the slaughter feedlots by posting them on the  "Urgent" page of this web site.

A recent addition to our rescue efforts has been to add courtesy listings to the "Available Horses" page of our website in an attempt to help horse owners find good homes for their animals privately rather than selling them at auction, where they face the very real danger of being bought for slaughter.  When we are able, we also will accept owner-surrendered horses that otherwise would have nowhere else to go.

At this time, the majority of costs involved with our rescue horses, from daily necessities to specialized veterinary care, are paid for out of our own pocket.  We can ALWAYS use and gladly accept support and donations from the community, and as a recognized 501(c)(3) organization, all donations are tax deductible with the IRS.  More information on how to help SAHR can be found on the "Want to Help?" page.

We have many plans and goals for the future of Shiloh Acres Horse Rescue, and we continue to try and find new ways to support the equine community and assist horses and owners in need.
